Agamermis (Nematoda: Mermithidae) Infection in South Carolina Agricultural Pests.
Native and invasive stink bugs (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) and the closely related invasive Megacopta cribraria (Hemiptera: Plataspidae) are agricultural pests in the southeastern United States. Natural enemies, from various phyla, parasitize these pests and contribute to population regulation. We specifically investigated Nematoda infections in pentatomid and plataspid pests in one soybean field...
متن کاملRecent and fossil nematode parasites (Nematoda: Mermithidae) of neotropical ants.
The following new recent species of mermithid (Nematoda) parasites of Neotropical ants are described: Meximermis ectatommi n.gen., n. sp. from workers of Ectatomma ruidum Roger in Southern Mexico, Agamomermis cephaloti n. sp. from a worker of Cephalotes minutus (Fab.) collected in Brazil, Agamomermis ecitoni n. sp. from a worker of Eciton burchellii Westwood collected in Venezuela and Agamomerm...
متن کاملCross-mating of Romanomermis culicivorax and R. communensis (Nematoda: Mermithidae).
Tile genus R o m a n o m e r m i s presently contains seven recognized species, six of which parasitize mosquitoes (2). These species differ morphologically, are geographically isolated, and exhibi t different biological characteristics from one another (e.g., opt imal host species, development times, and temperatures) (1,3). T h e study conducted by Petersen (3) represents the only published a...
متن کاملThe mermithid species Isomermis lairdi (Nematoda, Mermithidae), previously only known in Africa, found in Europe
The present work contributs to the knowledge on the aquatic mermithids (Nematoda, Mermithidae) occurring in black flies - an insufficiently studied group of parasitic nematodes. Isomermislairdi Mondet, Poinar & Bernadou, 1977, described from larvae of Simuliumdamnosum Theobald, 1903 in Western Africa, is reported to occur in Bulgaria. The species was isolated from larvae of Simuliumornatum Meig...
متن کاملStrelkovimermis spiculatus n. sp. (Mermithidae: Nematoda) Parasitizing Aedes albifasciatus Mac. (Culicidae: Diptera) in Argentina.
Strelkovimermis spiculatus n. sp. (Mermithidae: Nematoda), a parasite of the mosquito Aedes albifasciatus Mac. in Argentina, is described. Diagnostic characters of this species include a ventrally shifted mouth opening and spicules fused at the tips. The mermithid has been reared on Culex pipiens L. larvae in the laboratory.
